This month we're taking questions on the paranormal, with the next two sessions dedicated to the UAP phenomena.

An excellent introduction to Bernardo's take on this can be found in his 2024 essay here.

UAPs and Non-Human Intelligence: What is the most reasonable scenario?
This is the homepage of philosopher and computer scientist Bernardo Kastrup, with links to his biography and most of his works.

Additionally, one of our members, Fawn Miller, has been researching these topics for many years. She has compiled two very helpful introductory YouTube playlists, which are linked below.

Finally, this week we've also released three clips to YouTube with Bernardo responding to critiques of paranormal studies and discussing Near Death Experiences. You can find these below also.

UAP Primer

Here are a few words from Fawn, and links to the playlists:

  • Most videos are interviews or talks and are therefore great for listening (vs watching), with the exception of the Jesse Michels videos which are documentary-style w/high visual production value.
  • I recommend Youtube Premium to avoid ads, and/or most of the videos can also be found as podcasts on various platforms.

PLAYLISTS:#1: "UAP 101 (Fawn's Recommendations)" - An introductory step-by-step playlist of informative videos and interviews on the UAP topic, for those who may be relatively new to this realm. I've arranged the playlist in a customized linear order to help bring people through a progressive journey, and I recommend following the sequence for at least the first half of the playlist.

  • On an important note - and this might sound a bit hyperbolic but it is entirely sincere: This topic can be very paradigm shifting or even shattering for people. Below the tip of the "UAP/UFO" iceberg are endlessly deep, vast, unfathomable, and interconnected rabbit holes that can disrupt all notions of "truth" and what it means to exist, down to the very fabric of our lived "reality". For many, what starts with a sheer curiosity evolves into a life-altering journey as the layers are peeled back to reveal the fascinating dimensions of this topic.

I share this as a caring note of consideration akin to the Morpheus & Neo "blue pill / red pill" moment in "The Matrix", as most people have no idea that the seemingly simple act of following their curiosity about this topic might radically change their lives, or at the very least leave them with endless questions about the unfathomable strangeness that they encounter.

That said, my sense is that the members of our class who do feel compelled to learn more about UAPs & The Phenomenon are likely well-primed for the adventure:)

#2: Jeffrey Kripal (Fawn's faves) - A short playlist of my favorite Jeffrey Kripal interviews relevant to these topics, starting with the most recent.

I hope this is helpful, please let me know if you have any questions or if I can provide any additional info!

Ps - If appropriate, I am absolutely available as a resource for people to reach out to for support, guidance, or further information on these topics www.fawnmiller.com/fawn-universal and/or other life-related themes www.fawnmiller.com .

Bernardo responds to critiques of paranormal studies

In the video above, Bernardo pointed out the bias that marginalises psychic phenomena studies. Many people responded with additional critiques, that these studies are unrepeatable, or of only small statistical significance.

In response, Bernardo Kastrup highlights that real world circumstances are probably required for such phenomena. This is similar to other observational sciences that cannot rely on repeatability, including astronomy.

He also notes the arbitrary nature of ‘statistical significance,’ noting that numerous scientific careers have been built on margins smaller than many psi studies. This highlights a metaphysical bias amongst scientists which may distort the interpretation of valid scientific findings.

Metaphysical idealism can account for such phenomena within a rational and scientific framework, whilst eliminating the ‘hard problem of consciousness.’

Allowing for idealism as a rational framework doesn’t prove any particular paranormal claim is ‘true.’ But it does offer a perspective in which evidence can be assessed neutrally.

Discussion with Bernardo Kastrup 5th August, 2025

Finally, we've released an excerpt from earlier this year on a related theme: Near Death Experiences. Thank Kiri Stockman for the edit.

I hope you enjoy these, and if you haven't already, that you join us for the weekly Q&As.

Tomorrow we meet to discuss the UAP phenomena:

What on earth do UFOs have to do with Idealism?
12th August: Discussion & Q&A with Bernardo Kastrup. 19th August: Discussion & Q&A with guest Jeffrey Kripal PhD & Bernardo Kastrup. “Meaning in Absurdity: UAPs & High Strangeness”

With appreciation,
