8th April - Quantum Physics, Entanglement & Mind

This session tackles the strange bridge between quantum physics and the mind. It explores how reality may depend on observation, how consciousness might shape or collapse quantum possibilities, and what that means for what’s “real.” It dives into wave function collapse, quantum entanglement, decoherence, the role of measurement, and whether our inner experiences reflect the structure of reality itself. This is the frontline of the battle between physicalism and idealism.
If we have time, we'll zoom out to the cosmos. What is time—emergent illusion or real flow? Is the universe a multiverse? Did it start from nothing? Does entropy define the arrow of time? This theme considers quantum gravity, spacetime emergence, modeling the universe, the Big Bang, and the metaphysical implications of cosmological models.
Last week we discussed many examples of what nature might symbolise, from the perspective of analytic idealism. This session dives even deeper, and is dedicated to the implications of major theories in physics on idealism physics.
Thanks to Robert and Corrado for suggesting this theme.
This session will be co-hosted with Nour, who ran the Bernardo Kastrup Book Club for 3 years, and did her master's thesis in Theoretical Physics. She's also a senior data scientist at IBM and a senior quantum ambassador. I feel lucky to have her help shape the session!
We already have more questions submitted for this one than we'll have time to cover, so we'll be scheduling more on this theme in the future. If you've got any thoughts to share on the existing questions, it would be great to hear in the comments below.
We'll have to plan future sessions on the same topic, given how much interest this has created!
Please note the new zoom room for April:
